Roller derby, baby!

I am a roller girl!!! ;-)
I'm having Roller Derby training tonight. So here's the song in my mind.
(and I'm sure you'll all enjoy watching Anna Karina, such a pretty lady!)

Anna Karina - Rollergirl
"...je suis la seule qui reste seule. Il m'arrivera jamais rien... Si j'continue comme ça, c'est foutu pour moi!" (I am the only one staying on her own. Nothing will ever happen to me... If I carry on this way, that's fucked up for me!)

Royal!!

The funniest thing I've heard this week: Two guys were walking behind me, one asked the other: "D'you mean Queen the band or Elizabeth?"

But you know I'm here even though I'm not!

Today's song was recorded in 1979 for the film "Les Miroirs". Songwritter is Frederic Botton (Black Botton), orchestration is by Alain Goraguer (who worked on R.Laloux's animation films The Fantastic Planet and Gandahar (Light Years)), and the voices are Annie Girardot's and Dominic Briand's.

Save your sorrow... (part 1)

Lately I had some interest for Amanda Lear... I think I like her because she's the girl who's dumped David Bowie to start a disco career... You can't be more "beautiful loser" than that!! ♥

It started to get this "facination" after my brother offered me the second issue of Schnock, for my birthday:

I've enjoy very much, reading the 36pages about her friendship with Dali, her little love affaire with Bowie and with Brian Jones, her cool life when she was working as a top model with Nico and Twiggy, her disco career and her jet-set life, her work at Berlusconi's tv channel, her success at the theatre, etc.
Amanda Lear is a kind of "UFO" to me... She's such a versatil person.
She's done such completely different things in her lifetime.
And she's a mystery... after all these years, everyone's still wondering if she was born a girl or a boy?.. Is she or is she not a transsexual... I don't think she is, cause if she was that would have been the best kept secret of all times! haha...
But it's true the masculin lines of her face and her very low voice make people speak and write about it... Some say that she is the person who inspired the androgynous Ziggy Stardust to Bowie... Who knows?... I only think as short as they've been together for, they just had impact in each others life and then carried on in different directions after she's dumped him. After all, she was right, it was an impossible love story, he had a son and was still married; moreover, he was wearing even more make-up than she was, so she certainly had enough of washing the pillow cases ;-)
Though I think they looked lovely as a couple... Watch this footage (Bowie was performing "Sorrow", a cover of the Merseys, for NBC's Midnight Special. The show was filmed at the Marquee Club, in London, on November 16th, 1973. They are on a chess board, Amanda is the dark queen and he is the white knight. A little speech between them is introducing the song), this is quite touching:

And save your stupid too... (part 2)

...Then I started to become Amanda Lear... well, I had her voice for few days, haha...
Because I had a chest infection (and I'm still coughing as I'm writing this), so my voice started to get lower...
When it happens, I'm usually telling I have Terminator's voice and enjoy saying "I'll be back!" anytime I leave a room.
A friend once said I more have a Marianne Faithfull voice... aww.. (certainly he only said that to be nice to me, cause he knew I like Marianne Faithfull, or just cause he had enough of my Terminator joke).

But having Amanda Lear in mind after reading Schnock, I thought, it's in fact more of an Amanda Lear's voice that I had. And next time, maybe I should take the advantage of having this low voice to record a cover of one of her songs... (she has few good ones but mainly wasted by some heavy disco rhythms...)

Here are her best ones (in a chronological order):
(I'm personally having a preference for The Sphynx, Intellectually and Enigma, and also liking Lethal Leading Lady and...)

La Bagarre - 1975

Trouble (english version of La Bagarre) - 1976

Lethal Leading Lady - 1976

Blood and Honey - 1976

My Alphabet - 1977

Mon Alphabet (french version of My Alphabet)- 1977

Enigma - 1978

Hollywood Flashback - 1978

Intellectually - 1978

The Sphynx - 1979

Oh Boy - 1979

Nymphomania - 1980

Turning 30!

Today I'm 30!
Turning 30 is an occasion when you take stock of all accomplishments in your life...
Then, I must say I'm not very happy getting older.
When I was a child, I thought by the time I'd reach the age of 30, we'll be traveling to other planets... I thought I'd work as an astrophysician or some other boring and important jobs like that, and I'd drive a moon bugy (like the one James Bond steals in Diamonds Are Forever), and I'd be married to a martian who I would make aliens with...
Reality is so much different!
I just carry on doing shit jobs. I have a bicycle. And looking at my love life, I don't predict any birth coming soon. (Yeah you can tell it, my life sucks!) In fact I'm not doing anything of my life at all, that's why I can't enjoy turning 30 cause I haven't done anything constructive yet!
Shit, I've wasted my time!!

Luckily I'm having a 10years extension! Phew!! Saved!! Thanks goodness!!

Yes, considering things have changed, nowadays, that means I still have 10years to build this "happy" way of life I dreamt about when I was a child.

You've heard things have changed, don't you?
Stuff like: - Thursday night is the new Saturday night (20sthg people prefere partying on Thursdays rather than Saturdays cause there are too many 40sthg people in clubs on Saturdays)
- 80's kids are the new hippies (leather jackets and skinny jeans have replaced baja jackets and flare trousers)
- and 30 is the new 20 (because we live longer, etc.)
(I'm stopping the list here, can't bother thinking of more than 3 exemples)

So yeah, things have changed and I'm lucky enough to be born in the early 80's, so I'm turning 30 right at the good time, just when the twenties are sliding into the thirties therefore I'll have 2 decades instead of one!! Don't know if my explaination's clear enough... I don't think it is, but hope you'll get my point and understand why I'm still having ten more years to do the things I haven't done before turning 30! ;-)

Philippe Katerine - J'ai 30ans!

Another thing: Let's stop asking kids what they wanna be when they grow old. It's fucking stupid!! Why planning things such a long time in advence?
Only bringing disappointment when they grow up, and realise they can't get it cause the world has changed (different fashions, different ways of life), this is evolution! By the time they arrive to what they dreamt, it's not contractual anymore!!! The dreams we put in their minds today will mostly not be realistic anymore tomorrow!!! Like me and my futuristic vision of the future when I was a kid...
Though, I was quite clever cause I had considered the evolution fact, but not the right way because I thought technology would send us in different world with spaceships, etc., but in fact technology has only sent us in the virtual world of the Internet! Bleh, that'll teach me to dream too big!

I love you Bandcamp! ❤‿❤

If you need some inspiration for a Valentine's Day playlist... why not digging deeper, there are truckloads of new (and not so new) bands on Bandcamp, and it's a happy feeling to discover new things to listen to, isn't it? :-)

(now if you choose to download songs on Bandcamp, even if it's a free download please make a donation... Let's be honest, it's harder and harder for an independant artist to survive nowadays! You can download commercial stuff like Lady Gaga as much as you want, I don't care, but not independant artists, please!... They need your support, keep them alive if you wanna have more coming from them...) ;-)

Here are few suggestions of bands I think you should check, enjoy!

High Highs

Kim Novak

Fever Blanket

Sun Sister

The Unbearable Lightness

Bhurgeist

Deadbeat Beat

Feeling down today.

Anytime I'm feeling that bad, like today, I've got a little trick!
I'm just thinking of that, and sometimes I even watch the sequence again... just to hear Jarvis's voice saying "Everything is gonna be alright!"
Sometimes it helps me feeling not so down anymore...

Knit and listen!

Knitting circle, anyone?
I'm thinking of running a workshop at next Indietracks festival, so that you can stay entertained in between two gigs, doing/learning something useful rather than just getting drunk. Then you can even keep on knitting while watching the next band, knit like crazy all over the week-end and then go home with a new scarf, hat or whatever you decide making ;-)

If you're interested in running a workshop yourself...
Here are more informations on how to apply. Do have a look as they're looking for more people. You have until March to make up your mind, and who knows, it could be your chance to start a new activity ;-)

Little pig, let me 'pop' in!

Have you ever experienced having someone or something up there, on your mind, constantly?
It's like you lost controle of your thoughts, this person/thing will pop in yr mind at work, when you're eating, when you're watching TV, when you're reading a book, or in your dreams when you're sleeping, etc. etc. etc. Most of the time you don't even notice you're thinking about that someone/that thing, until you suddenly realise it's on yr mind again...
Well I wish I could pop in his mind like that, whenever I like it, to distract him too! ;-)

By the way, you can also watch my shity video of Vashti Bunyan I've filmed at ATP festival, on December 2010, on my channel ;-)

Satanic Twins

First of all, I'd like to say a big thank you for visiting my blog, because I've had unusual amount of visitors in the past 3 days... That's great, it made me happy to see that. I just don't get it... I have posted stuff that were better, in the past, and what I'm writing lately isn't good, but I'm not gonna try to understand, maybe it just means I should "talk" to Bowie more often then! ;-)

Okay, back to today's song... You've certainly already heard the band 'Of Montreal' is back!!!
When I tell you they're back, I don't just mean they're having a new forthcoming album soon (Paralytic Stalks, to be released on February 7th), no, I really mean they're back!!! How exciting!!!
Careful, I'm not saying the 3 last albums were bad though!! An Of Montreal album is always quality music and so interesting by its complexity. I all loved them in a different way. But the next one promise me to be totaly fucking great... I feel the same connection I had to 'Satanic Panic in the Attic' and 'Sunlandic Twins' and I've only been listening to this one teaser track: Dour Percentage. Oh my dear!! It's glam-pop at its awesomeness this song..., it's like they've taken all the best things I like in music and put them in a shaker... and a tasty mixture came out.

They're feeding my brain through my ear... and all my favourite ingredients are in, so it tastes delicious to me, with big flavours of Os Mutantes, a spoonful of 80's sounds, a pinch of ska, and two cups of Bowie intonations in KB's voice (oh, the sweet voice of KB. It became familiar to my hear through the years, a bit like a sugar addiction). But anyway, it might taste different to you, so to know it, you've to listen (the same way you don't know if you like spinach before you give it a try).

Dour Percentage
< (this is downloadable for free because Santa's told me you didn't have enough presents at Christmas so he's decided to give you an extra one) Ah la la, I can't wait for April now... Yeah, new album means, new tour!!! °‿° Check what's the closest town to yr house where they're coming to play and book tickets, I can't give you better advice, because even if you don't like their music more than that, you'll love the show!!! I promise you!!! I've seen them 4 or 5 times already and it's always been a happy time, so theatrical and glam and completely abstract like satanic Barnes brothers.

Happy 65th birthday dear major Tom!

Ground Control to Major Tom...
Ground Control to Major Tom...
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on.

Ground Control to Major Tom...
Commencing countdown, engines on.
Check ignition and may God's love be with you

One, Two, Three, Four,..., Sixty-five! ;-)

This is Ground Control to Major Tom...
You've really made the grade!
And the papers want to wish you a happy 65th birthday!
Also want to say a massive thank you for all your ace songs.
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
Cause it's been too long since we've last seen you on a stage!

Well, so many people are dreaming of a possible come back... to be honest, even if you're one of the artists I'd like to have the chance to see one day, Mr Bowie, I don't mind... I'm already happy you sung a song with my name ;-)
Of course, I'm concious it rather was somebody-else-called-like-me's name... but, it's my right to pretend!!! So I'm pretending... Hey, that's what the song's asking anyway: "Julie, pretend for me..." ;-)

Don't worry people, I'm also perfectly conscious of the fact I'm only writing on my blog and not talking to David Bowie. We all know he'll never read this, but still I'm pretending... ;-)
No, I'm not insane. Or I might be fractionally insane yeah, and deal with it, cause that who I am!!

So again, a very happy 65th birthday to David Bowie, who's 'not a prophet or a stone age man, just a mortal with the potential of a superman'.

And as a little bonus, here are some pictures of David Bowie doing 'normal' stuff like going to the museum, food-shopping, pouring himself a drink, playing bowling, exercising, etc.

All my secrets...

I'm someone who keeps many things for myself.
Dificult to believe, but this is the truth! Despite I'm telling people about my life on this blog, on Facebook, on Myspace, etc., I still have truck loads of secrets.
Some are very secret secrets that nobody knows about, some are memories I could tell you about if we become friends, some are dreams you can easily guess, etc.
Can you find what are all the secrets I'm not saying through this song?

Happy new-age year!

Happy new year my little ducks!
Let me tell you a secret: If you visit this blog regularly, you'll survive the apocalypse!! I am not joking! I'm telling the truth! Remember him?

His name is Kenshiro. In french we call him 'Ken le survivant' (Ken the survivor). He's the main character of the manga 'Hokuto no Ken'.
His secret to become a survivor: he's been checking my blog everyday! I am telling no lies, I would never dare!! (and also Kenshiro's watched Rocky again and again and again, because he was a big fan of Survivor... it also explains his resemblance to Silvester Stalone, "so awesome!" hahaha) ;-)

So yeah, may you all be survivors on 2012, and if not, I'm still wishing you a happy last new year, it's been a pleasure... Please remember to die in style, don't forget to play some nice music for a happy apocalypse ;-)

Now, wanna know what's the song on my mind today?
I'm posting 2 today! (what a treat!)
First song is a dedicace to Ken >

(fantastic videoclip, it reminds me of when I've seen Jarvis Cocker at RFH for Meltdown festival in 2007, because he ended the gig with a great cover of The Eye Of The Tiger, that was cool!)

The other one is because today a new year's starting, and... well, the song speaks for itself >
